G)raphics: RBBS-PC offers three options to tailor its visual output to
your PC system and personal tastes. The three options are:
N)one, A)scii graphics, C)olor graphics
TIPS: RBBS-PC recommends that you experiment to see the types of
graphics that your system supports. If in doubt, choose N)one!
WHAT EACH PARTICULAR OPTION MEANS
A)scii: Ascii graphics uses all 255 characters in the IBM character set.
Most IBM PC compatible systems can properly receive ASCII graphics.
TIPS:
1. TEST - Your system supports the IBM PC character set if you see
characters such as the heart and straight line ────.
2. Select the N)one option if you are receiving funny-looking characters
on your screen.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
C)olor: C)olor graphics uses all 255 IBM characters and the ANSI screen
commands to provide color and sound effects and music.
To receive color graphics and sound effects, you generally must have:
1) an IBM PC or compatible computer,
2) the ANSI.SYS device driver referenced in a config.sys file on
your boot disk (take a look at your computer manual and software
documentation for more on using the ANSI.SYS device driver),
3) you must be using a communications software package designed to
interpret these special ANSI control codes (e.g., Qmodem, PC-
Talk).
TIPS:
1. Your system supports ANSI screen commands if this
blinks in
green.
2. Choose the N)one option if you are receiving funny-looking characters
on your screen.
3. Color graphics will slow down transfer of menus and other screens
from RBBS-PC. Keep in mind that the pleasing visuals take longer to
transmit and can increase your long distance telephone bill.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
N)one: Selecting N)one will result in only the printable characters
you see on typewriters being being displayed on your screen (the
lower 128 ASCII values).
TIPS:
1. All computers use the lower 128 ASCII characters. Select the N)one
option if you are in doubt about your system's capabilities.
2. Choose the N)one option if you are receiving funny-looking characters
on your screen.
